1. Introduction
Fonzi, Inc. ("the Company," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website getfonzi.org (the "Service"), an AI-powered engineering recruiting platform that matches engineering candidates to teams based on both technical stack compatibility and working-style fit. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect from the two groups who use our platform (engineering hiring managers and engineer candidates), how we use that information to operate the matching engine, and the choices you have. It applies to information collected through the Service and through direct communications with us.
We are based at 115 West 18th Street, 6th Floor, New York, NY 10011, and can be reached at [email protected].
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information Provided by Hiring Managers
Engineering hiring managers and employers who post roles on the Service provide:
- Account details: name, work email address, company name, and title;
- Role postings: job description, required and preferred technical stack, engineering level, compensation range, and location or remote work policy;
- Team culture and working-style criteria: collaboration pace (async-first or synchronous), team-size preference, communication norms, and any culture context submitted in the intake form;
- ATS integration credentials (Scale plan customers): OAuth authorization tokens for Greenhouse or Ashby to sync role and candidate-status data;
- Billing information processed by our payment provider. We do not store full card numbers.
2.2 Information Provided by Engineers
Engineers who create profiles to be matched to roles provide:
- Account details: name, email address, and a verified professional identity;
- Technical profile: primary and secondary programming languages, frameworks and tools, years of experience per domain, and specializations you choose to list;
- Working-style preferences: async vs. synchronous preference, team-size preference, remote or hybrid or in-office availability, and communication style indicators;
- Career context: current role level, types of problems you want to work on, and any portfolio or project links you choose to submit;
- Visibility controls: which parts of your profile a matched hiring manager may see, and whether your profile is active or paused.
2.3 Matching and Platform Data
When our matching engine processes a role, we generate and store:
- Fit scores: numerical assessments of technical-stack compatibility and working-style alignment between a candidate profile and a posted role;
- Fit reasoning: natural-language explanations of why a candidate scored as they did on each matching dimension;
- Match event logs: records of which profiles were surfaced to which hiring managers, and how those hiring managers interacted with the shortlist;
- Usage signals: aggregated interaction data (views, comparisons, skips) used to improve ranking quality over time.
2.4 Information Collected Automatically
When you visit getfonzi.org, we automatically collect limited technical information:
- IP address and approximate location (city and region level);
- Browser type, operating system, and device class;
- Pages visited, referring URLs, and time on page;
- Cookie and similar identifiers (see Section 5).
2.5 We Do Not Knowingly Collect Children's Data
getfonzi.org is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Run the matching engine: compare engineer profiles against employer role criteria across technical-stack and working-style dimensions to generate ranked shortlists with fit reasoning;
- Present shortlists to hiring managers: deliver ranked candidate results, match scores, and the profile details each engineer has permitted to share;
- Notify engineers: alert engineers when they have been matched to a role, and inform them of outcomes when a hiring manager advances or passes;
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Service: troubleshoot issues, develop new matching signals, and improve ranking accuracy using aggregated and de-identified data;
- Process payments and manage subscriptions for Growth and Scale plan customers;
- Send service updates and, with your consent where required, product announcements;
- Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or Terms of Service violations;
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information for monetary value. We do not use candidate profile content or employer hiring criteria submitted through the Service to train AI models without explicit written consent. Where applicable state law treats certain advertising arrangements as a "sale" or "share," see your state's section below.
4. Sharing of Information
We share personal information only with:
- Hiring managers on the platform: when an engineer profile is matched to a role, we share the profile information the engineer has chosen to make visible, subject to that engineer's visibility controls;
- Service providers acting on our behalf (for example, cloud hosting, email delivery, payment processing, and analytics providers) under contractual confidentiality obligations;
- ATS providers (Greenhouse, Ashby) when a Scale plan hiring manager authorizes a sync, limited to the data required for that sync;
- Authorities, when required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of users or others;
- A successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell personal information to third parties.
5. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, maintain login sessions, and measure usage. For details and choices, see our Cookie Policy.
6. Data Retention
We retain personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described, to comply with legal and accounting obligations, and to resolve disputes. Our standard retention practices:
- Active accounts: data retained while your account is active;
- Inactive accounts: profile and matching data purged 24 months after your last login;
- Engineer opt-out or deletion request: your profile is removed from matching within 7 days and deleted from our systems within 30 days of the request;
- Match event logs: retained 12 months for service improvement, then aggregated and anonymized;
- Server access logs: retained 90 days, then aggregated.
7. Security
We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information, including TLS encryption in transit, restricted-access databases, least-privilege access controls, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your General Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights including access, correction, deletion, and the ability to limit certain processing. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
